Training for Nuns in 2024

Dear Dharma Sisters of the Vajrayana/Nalanda Tradition,

Warm greetings, hands to heart, and rejoicing in your noble dedication as ordained members of the Buddhist Sangha.  How wonderful to dedicate one’s life to attaining full enlightenment!

As you may or may not know, the Alliance of Non Himalayan Nuns (ANHN) is a non-profit organisation founded to give support to female monastics.  As such, it has a non-sectarian mission governing its main objective which is to support (in any and many ways) the activities and practices primarily of ordained female monastics of Vajrayana/Nalanda Buddhism who are from cultures and countries outside of traditional Tibetan and Himalayan regions (Nepal, Bhutan, Ladakh, northern India).

Right before Covid changed the course of the world’s plans in 2020, we at ANHN had been meeting and beginning the planning phase of a large gathering together of non-Himalayan nuns.  The main motivation was to provide deeper benefit to our practice from a more prolonged community gathering together of those in a similar situation.  We shall train, practice, discuss and support one another on this unique Dharma path.  As most are not within organised nunneries or sangha communities, this is a unique opportunity to gather together to gain community support and share individual perspectives.  We shall learn from one another, as well as from senior non-Himalayan nuns who have already signed on: Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo and Venerable Tenzin Sangmo, to name a few.

We are now ready to begin a very robust planning phase to bring this vision to fruition.
